Sometimes nature’s summer glory ends up around my trellises instead of on them. This year, that’s definitely the case with this one! Even so, I think it has a beauty all its own. I really do try to keep the phlox under control because it’s so invasive, but my heart just won’t let me pull it all out. The cheerful daisies and the purple gayfeather complete the look so nicely.

Its matching trellis hasn’t been nearly as cooperative in the “nature’s summer glory” department. It has my Miscanthus Giganteus growing behind it, but the two clematis have decided to take the year off. Well…each has produced one flower that you can’t even see, which hardly counts.
But I fixed it.
While camping recently, we stopped at the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store in Baraboo, where I found this hat for just $5. A quick trip to Walmart for $4 worth of ribbon and flowers netted me all I needed to buy. The hardest part was waiting until I got home to break out my hot glue gun. A little creativity and floral wire later…presto! A pretty new “bloom” that will last all summer. Now thats a low maintenance option.
Take a look…problem solved! 😊
